Many practitioners wish to know whether or not they are practicing in the proper way.

In short, there are two questions you can ask yourself to assess your practice. First, are your negative emotions diminishing? Second, are you able to forgive and forget incidents that disturb your mental stability?

If you are able to answer these questions positively, then you are on the right path.

If your destructive emotions grow in spite of your practice then you still need to make effort at applying the instructions you have received in your daily life. And if you are able to let go of past disturbing events in order to focus your energy on meaningful pursuits, then you have indeed done well with your practice. 

In summary, put into practice whatever teachings you have received every day and do not allow your bad habits to hold you back from spiritual growth.
