Since what differentiates Buddhists from non-Buddhists
is having the faith of conviction in the Three Jewels,
uphold these infallible sources of refuge.
On the basis of that, if you uphold the eight mudras,
then you will become a follower of the Buddha and not other systems.
Uphold the Buddha, Dharma, Sangha, and Guru.
In terms of the view:
(1) see all things as impermanent like an illusion.
(2) Understand that all contaminated things are simply in the nature of afflictions and suffering,
(3) Know that all phenomena are in essence selfless.
(4) Realize that nirvana alone is peace.
In terms of compassionate conduct:
(5) offer tormas to Dzambala,
(6) and likewise clean portions of food to yakshas,
(7) and water offerings to quench the burning mouths of hungry ghosts and
(8) spirits.
These are the eight mudras.
