A True Friendship

Many people have different expectations from good friends. Some believe a true friend must be kind and understanding, while others believe he or she must be honest. It is true that friends should be trustworthy and anyone who has the following three characteristics makes a perfect friend. These are caring, patient and being less selfish.

Life is complicated, yet beautiful and when we are living in a diverse culture, independence is a way of life. In such an atmosphere, caring for each other’s needs becomes a necessity. In addition, in the 21st century, life has become more of a challenge and a struggle for many individuals. Without genuine care for each other, may eventually become a source of depression and build up mistrust.

Secondly, we all know that our life styles have changed tremendously over the years and our needs have also grown beyond our own imagination. We are all struggling every day for our future. Yet, there is no one who can really tell us when the hard work will pay off. Moreover, such a situation creates an impatient mood among all of us, so we need a friend who is more patient. This helps to create a certain degree of understanding and peaceful atmosphere among all of us.

Finally, this friend should be more open to ideas and changes. This attitude will have a positive effect on every individual. As a friend, we need to think for all of us, not just for ourselves. We have to share each other’s feelings, success or failure. Furthermore, if a friend is self-centred, then there is no more meaning in the so called friendship. Friends have to be open and understanding of each other’s needs and concerns.

Friends are important in one’s life as they make our life more meaningful, giving us a sense of belonging. We must encourage ourselves to be a friend to others, be caring, more patient and less self-centred for the betterment of friendship.
