Today is the Buddhist holiday of Lhabab Duchen,
or the "Festival of the Descent from Heaven," which falls on the 22nd day of the ninth lunar month and is one the holiest days for Buddhists. The Buddha traveled to Tushita Heaven through his miraculous powers in order to teach the gods as well as his mother Mayadevi who had been reborn there. After performing innumerable beneficial activities in Tushita Heaven for three months, on this particular holy day, the Buddha descended from heaven back to earth in order to continue teaching and benefitting this world. So today, as much as possible, everyone should strive to practice the Buddha’s teachings, observe the ten virtues and refrain from the ten non-virtues, hold only positive thoughts about others, and be examples of living the practice.
