There is nothing wrong with hoping for something in our lives. As ordinary people, we always tend to look for success, fame, prosperity, and happiness.

However, we should recognize that such wishes come with consequences, and be careful with our hopes. For instance, one of the highly accomplished teachers, Saraha, told the following story in one of his teachings: There was a young girl who had a date with her boyfriend at midnight and she waited anxiously until very late night. She was thinking so much that she got really exhausted and stressed out. Even after midnight, her boyfriend never showed up. Subsequently, she let go of her hopes and expectations for his arrival and went to sleep. She managed to sleep very well until late morning. This story tells us that whenever we hope for anything, these hopes and wishes of ours may result in worries and anxieties. Hopes do not necessarily guarantee us happiness, but as long as we are aware of their consequences, then it is totally up to us whether we wish to spend our energy hoping or just have fewer expectations in our lives.

If we want to share something with others, it would be much wiser if we understand that not everyone has the same interests as us. Thus, when we share anything with others, we should at least be aware of others' interests. Only then will others appreciate our sincerity.

It is always easy to find the faults in others and to criticize them just for the sake of criticizing. However when it comes to ourselves, it is much harder to see our own shortcomings. Most importantly, to recognize whole-heartedly that these defects may even have existed within us for a long time. In my opinion, if we are sincere, then we can learn a great deal from others' missteps and shortfalls, which may give us opportunities to reflect on and improve ourselves. But if we are not learning from others' mistakes, then simply criticizing others will not help others or ourselves. Thus, we should try to stay away from making unnecessary comments which are not healthy for anyone. After all, it is much more beneficial to correct our own mistakes so that we can be better people.
